Comfy Home privacy policy
Last updated: 3 November 2026
Comfy Home is a Chrome extension that shows your saved links on the new-tab page. This page says what it keeps and where.
What Comfy Home keeps
- Your links and folders stay in Chrome’s own bookmarks. Comfy Home reads them and changes them only when you add, rename, move, remove or bring in a link or folder.
- Removed links go to a folder called “Removed by Comfy Home” in Chrome’s Other bookmarks, and are deleted for good after 30 days, with their notes and tags. Until then Undo and “Put back” bring them back. The date each one was removed is kept with your settings.
- Your layout, tags, notes and settings (which parts are on your home page and folder pages and how they look, including the lists you set up and the words of a saved search, tile colours and sizes, tags, your note and the notes on links, your language, text size and first name) are kept in Chrome’s extension storage. If you are signed in to Chrome with sync turned on, Chrome copies them to your other computers, the same way it copies your bookmarks.
- What you opened and your undo history are kept on this computer only, never synced. For each link you opened from Comfy Home that is how many times and when you last did; the lists “Opened recently” and “Recent folders” keep the last 50 links and the last 20 folders. Undo keeps the last 200 steps. Comfy Home does not read Chrome’s browsing history.
- The current page’s address and title are read only when you click the Comfy Home icon on Chrome’s toolbar, to fill in its panel. A click saves nothing, and they join your links only if you press Save.
- Drafts stay on this computer and are not synced. If you change anything in the toolbar panel without saving, what you typed is kept with that page’s address (at most 20 pages), and so is the last folder you saved into. If you close a link’s own page with a name, web address or note typed but not saved, that typing is kept (for at most 20 links) so the page can offer it back. A draft goes when you save it or say no, thanks.
- A few small bookkeeping lists (which of your links Comfy Home has already seen, a copy of your look, and a safety copy of tag data it could not read) stay on this computer, are not synced, and are used only to keep your data safe.
- Your links file. In Settings you can save your links and folders (not Removed, tags or notes) to a standard bookmarks file, which your browser downloads to your computer, and bring such a file in, which the page reads on this computer. The file is never sent anywhere. What comes in goes into a new folder on the bookmarks bar, and one Undo takes it out again.
- The clipboard is read only when you press the button to paste a web address, and only to put that address into the box.
- Site icons are off unless you turn on “Show each site’s own icon” in Settings. Chrome then asks your permission. Comfy Home reads the icons from Chrome’s own store on this computer, only for your saved links, and does not keep the icons or send them anywhere. No website is contacted to get an icon. So that icons appear straight away, Comfy Home remembers on this computer which of your saved links have an icon; this list is not synced. Turning the switch off on a computer gives that computer’s permission back and deletes its list. Turning the switch on again asks again.
- The weather is off until you put the Weather part on your home page and choose a city. Your city’s name and map position are kept with your settings; the last weather it fetched stays on this computer and is not synced.
What leaves your computer
Only the weather does this, and only with Open-Meteo, a weather service with no account and no key:
- When you look for a city, by pressing Find or Enter or by leaving the box, the name you typed and the page’s language go to Open-Meteo.
- While the Weather part is on your home page and a city is chosen, the city’s map position goes to Open-Meteo about once in three hours, and once more when the day changes at your city. While the service is failing, an open page tries again every 15 minutes.
Comfy Home adds nothing else: not your name, not your links, no cookies and no identifier of its own. Comfy Home never asks for your location.
Like any request from a browser, each one also shows Open-Meteo your computer’s internet address and ordinary browser headers: the browser’s version and platform, your language settings, and that the request comes from this extension (its origin, which is the same for everyone who installs it). Your city’s position together with your internet address can say roughly where you are. Open-Meteo’s terms say it may collect internet addresses to run its service and prevent misuse, and keeps server logs, which may hold coordinates, for up to 90 days. Its privacy policy applies there.
Removing the city in Settings stops the requests and deletes the stored weather.
Comfy Home credits the weather’s sources, as their licence (CC BY 4.0) asks: the weather tile links to Open-Meteo, and the Weather part’s own page names Open-Meteo for the weather, with its temperatures rounded to whole degrees, and GeoNames, whose place names Open-Meteo uses for the city names. The box where you choose your city, in Settings and on the first page you see, also links to GeoNames and to the licence. These links open the Open-Meteo, GeoNames or Creative Commons website in a new tab only when you press one; that visit is like any other website you open, and nothing is sent to these sites otherwise.
What Comfy Home does not do
- It has no server and no account, and makes no network requests of its own except the weather’s, above.
- No analytics, no tracking, no ads.
- It does not sell or share your data with anyone.
When you open one of your links, Chrome visits that website as it normally does. That website’s own privacy policy applies there.
Deleting your data
Removing Comfy Home from Chrome deletes its storage. Your links stay in Chrome’s bookmarks, where they were before, and so does the “Removed by Comfy Home” folder, which you can delete like any other folder.
